Job Title: Concrete Finisher 1

Professional Pavement Services is a family owned, full-service paving, construction, and property maintenance contractor serving Central and Northern Ohio. We offer comprehensive, year-round construction and maintenance services, including asphalt, concrete, landscaping, power washing, and winter operations. Our mission is to build lasting partnerships and exceed expectations through quality work, safety, and integrity. We take pride in doing things the right way, supporting our team, and delivering work we can stand behind. Built on teamwork, accountability, and respect, we’re looking for people who want steady, hands-on work and the opportunity to grow with a company that invests in its people and serves its communities year-round.

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Concrete Finisher to join our construction team. This role requires expertise in concrete techniques, the ability to work efficiently under time constraints, and a strong commitment to quality and safety. The ideal candidate will collaborate with laborers and supervisors to ensure concrete work meets project specifications and enhances durability and appearance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Concrete Finishing: Smooth and finish freshly poured concrete using hand tools (trowels, floats, edgers) and power tools (e.g., power trowels) to achieve a polished, even surface.
  • Surface Preparation: Level and spread concrete prior to finishing, ensuring proper alignment with forms and grades.
  • Specialized Finishes: Apply decorative or functional finishes, such as stamped patterns, exposed aggregate, or broom finishes, as specified by project plans.
  • Curing and Sealing: Apply curing compounds, sealants, or protective coatings to enhance concrete durability and weather resistance.
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished surfaces for imperfections, making repairs or adjustments to cracks, bubbles, or uneven areas as needed.
  • Formwork Assistance: Assist in setting up, aligning, and removing forms to ensure accurate concrete placement and edge finishing.
  • Tool Maintenance: Clean and maintain finishing tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Experience: At least 1–3 years of experience as a concrete finisher or in a related construction role; demonstrated ability to produce high-quality finishes.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., kneel, bend, and stand for long periods, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Skills: Proficiency with concrete finishing tools and techniques; ability to read blueprints or project plans is a plus. Strong attention to detail and teamwork skills required.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational training in concrete or masonry is an advantage.
  • Certifications: OSHA-10 certification preferred; ACI (American Concrete Institute) certification or similar is a bonus.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required. Must meet insurability standard. The ability to tow trailers or transport equipment is a plus.
  • Additional Requirements: Ability to pass a drug test as part of a drug-free workplace policy.
  • Phone: Must have cell phone to clock in and out daily, log jobs, and follow other company communications.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors at residential, commercial, or municipal properties, depending on the project.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, heavy materials, and seasonal weather is common; some tasks may involve heights or confined spaces.
  • Schedule is typically Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime or weekend work during peak construction or landscaping seasons (spring through fall).
  • Rare but possible multi-day, out-of-town trips, including long-distance travel, and overnight stays.

Salary and Benefits

  • Pay Range: Starting wage aligns with local non-union standards (apart from prevailing wage jobs) and is commensurate with experience, versatility, and additional skills like lawncare/chemical application.
  • Benefits:
    • Medical-partial percentage paid by the company after 60 days,
    • Dental and vision after 60 days, additional ancillary benefits,
    • 401K with a company match after 6 months of employment,
    • Vesting PTO immediately, can be used after 90 days,

    • 90-day probation period.
