About the role

Established in 1980, the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center (GLFHC) is a multi-site mission-driven non-profit organization employing over 700 staff whose primary focus is providing the highest quality patient care to residents throughout the Merrimack Valley. Nationally recognized as a leader in community medicine (family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, and geriatrics), GLFHC has clinical sites throughout the service area and is the sponsoring organization for the Lawrence Family Medicine Residency program.

GLFHC is currently seeking an experienced Controller (CPA Required) to join our Finance team. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller serves as the senior accounting leader for the organization and is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial reporting, accounting operations, audit coordination, regulatory compliance, and internal controls while supporting the financial sustainability of a large Federally Qualified Health Center.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, grants accounting, cash management, and account reconciliations.
  • Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and oversee financial statements, supporting schedules, and executive financial reports.
  • Lead the annual financial statement audit, Single Audit, and other regulatory audits while serving as the primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, HRSA requirements, Federal Uniform Guidance, and other federal and state regulations.
  • Oversee grant accounting, treasury management, reimbursement accounting, and internal controls.
  • Partner with Finance leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, organizational planning, and strategic decision-making.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while promoting continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of accounting leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience leading annual financial statement audits and preparing GAAP-compliant financial statements.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, healthcare finance, grants accounting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), community health center, or healthcare experience is highly preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with financial systems, ERP platforms, and Microsoft Excel.

GLFHC offers a collaborative working environment, comprehensive benefits package, tuition reimbursement, professional development opportunities, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.
