About the role

At DraftKings, AI is becoming an integral part of both our present and future, powering how work gets done today, guiding smarter decisions, and sparking bold ideas. It’s transforming how we enhance customer experiences, streamline operations, and unlock new possibilities. Our teams are energized by innovation and readily embrace emerging technology. We’re not waiting for the future to arrive. We’re shaping it, one bold step at a time. To those who see AI as a driver of progress, come build the future together.

The Crown Is Yours

As a Lead NetOps Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing and evolving our network infrastructure, partnering with teams across the organization to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable network solutions. You’ll help shape the future of our infrastructure through automation, cloud networking, and technical leadership while driving the evolution of the systems that power our industry-leading platform.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and lead complex network solutions across data centers, remote sites, and hybrid cloud environments, including AWS, GCP, advanced firewall, routing, switching, VPN, and BGP technologies.
  • Implement advanced Infrastructure as Code patterns, including remote state, modules, and workspaces.
  • Design automation and Infrastructure as Code solutions for multi-vendor network platforms, including FortiGate, Aruba, and Juniper.
  • Triage, debug, and resolve complex production issues while driving a culture of accountability and operational excellence.
  • Act as a technical mentor and coach, providing guidance and feedback that helps engineers grow and deliver their best work.
  • Play a critical role in shaping the team’s technical roadmap and engineering direction while fostering a culture of ownership and continuous learning.
  • Join the on-call rotation, taking ownership of incident resolution and providing senior-level escalation support for critical outages.
  • Maintain the health, performance, and security of our global infrastructure across hybrid environments using observability tools such as Datadog.

What You’ll Bring

  • At least 5 years of network administration experience with routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and routing and switching protocols.
  • At least 3 years of cloud networking experience across AWS, GCP, and hybrid data center connectivity.
  • Proven ability to architect, build, and scale complex network infrastructure.
  • A strong track record of mentoring engineers, leading change and design reviews, and driving high-impact technical decisions across cross-functional teams.
  • Hands-on experience with Aruba switching and FortiGate firewalls, along with a strong understanding of BGP, routing, switching, VPNs, firewalls, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code, Git-based workflows (GitOps), and advanced scripting in Python and Bash.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog and hands-on familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools, including Claude, Codex, and Gemini.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence technical roadmaps, align cross-functional teams, explain complex infrastructure concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders, and develop engineering talent through coaching and technical guidance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to remain composed while leading the resolution of critical production issues.
