About the role

New Castle Nursing & Rehab and Twin Oaks Assisted Living | New Castle, KY

Pay: $20–$25 per hour
Job type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, with emergency on-call responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Put your skills to work where people matter.

New Castle Nursing & Rehab, a CMS Five-Star rated facility, is seeking a dependable, personable Maintenance Assistant to support our nursing and rehabilitation community and Twin Oaks Assisted Living.

We’re looking for someone who combines practical repair skills with strong computer skills and a caring attitude. Our residents call these communities home, and your work will help keep their surroundings safe, comfortable, and welcoming.

Working alongside the Maintenance Director, you will assist with daily repairs, preventive maintenance, electronic work orders, and survey readiness. The ideal candidate takes initiative, follows through, and enjoys interacting respectfully with residents, families, and coworkers.

What you’ll do

  • Perform assigned general maintenance and repairs at New Castle Nursing & Rehab and Twin Oaks Assisted Living.
  • Assist with plumbing repairs, painting, patching, basic carpentry, and routine building upkeep.
  • Troubleshoot and assist with basic electrical and equipment repairs, including resident call lights and adjustable beds, within your training and authorized scope.
  • Recognize when a repair requires specialized assistance and promptly notify the Maintenance Director.
  • Use the electronic maintenance system to track work orders, document completed repairs, and maintain preventive maintenance records.
  • Help the Maintenance Director organize computer-based records, reports, inspection documentation, and maintenance schedules.
  • Support ongoing survey and inspection readiness through routine checks, accurate documentation, and timely completion of assigned corrective work.
  • Help prepare resident rooms and assisted living apartments and maintain common areas.
  • Communicate maintenance concerns, repair progress, and unresolved issues clearly.
  • Follow safety and infection prevention procedures, use tools safely, and keep work areas organized.
  • Respond to residents and staff with patience, courtesy, and care while minimizing disruption to daily routines.

What makes you a strong fit

  • Practical maintenance skills: Experience with plumbing, basic electrical troubleshooting, general repairs, and hand and power tools.
  • Strong computer skills: Comfortable using email, basic spreadsheets, electronic work orders, and digital records, with the ability to learn maintenance software.
  • Physical ability: Ability to safely access attic areas, climb ladders, and work in tight or restricted spaces to perform maintenance tasks, including bending, kneeling, and crawling, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • A personable, caring approach: You enjoy helping people and treat residents’ homes and belongings with respect.
  • Initiative and follow-through: You notice concerns, communicate them, and complete assigned tasks.
  • Organization and dependability: You manage priorities, maintain accurate records, and arrive ready to work.
  • Teamwork and willingness to grow: You work well with others and want to develop your knowledge of building systems and maintenance operations.

Previous building maintenance experience is preferred. Experience in healthcare or assisted living, including call-light systems and resident beds, is a plus.

Benefits

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Retirement plan options
  • Opportunities for advancement
  • Supportive, mission-driven work environment
