Job Title

Master Thesis - Design and Implementation of a Dynamic Current Sink for Power Supply Transient Characterization

Job Description

Category

Electronics

Scope

Master Thesis 30 hp

Background

Modern ASICs integrate multiple functional IP blocks that transition between idle and full-power states within nanoseconds, demanding nearly instantaneous current from the power delivery network. To ensure a voltage regulator satisfies these stringent dynamic requirements, its transient performance must be comprehensively evaluated across various operating scenarios. Applying rapid current steps via a dedicated step-response test board allows engineers to verify that voltage undershoot and overshoot remain within tight tolerances, while directly evaluating the regulator's control loop stability, damping, and settling behavior under large-signal stress.

Goal

The main goal of this project is to study, design, implement and verify a dynamic current sink which can be used to characterize the power supplies that are used in AXIS products.

The key features of the test board:

  • To cover a wide range of regulation voltage and current loads.
  • To be able to reach high slew rate values while being dynamically adjustable.

Who are you?

You are likely studying a Master Program within Electronics or Physics Engineering or similar, and you have a strong interest in analog electronic design and/or control theory.

OK, I am interested! What do I do now?

You are valuable to us – how nice that you are interested in one of our proposals! There are a few things for you to keep in mind when applying.

  • Applications are accepted in both Swedish and English, and you apply via the proposal advert.
  • The announced thesis is open only to students affiliated with a Swedish University/College either directly or via an exchange program.
  • When the thesis proposal states that it includes two students working together, we would like you to apply in pairs.
