About the role

Mechanical Engineer

We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our National Building Services team, based in Auckland. From hospitals and aged care facilities to commercial, residential, retail and industrial developments, you’ll build strong client relationships and deliver practical, high-performing mechanical solutions.

At Babbage, we’re proud of our collaborative and people-focused culture. As a multidisciplinary consultancy, we work closely together to deliver practical, efficient and high-performing solutions for our clients. You’ll be part of a passionate Buildings team and a wider multidisciplinary business that enjoys sharing knowledge, exploring creative ideas and delivering outcomes that make a genuine difference.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineer within our Building Services team, you’ll be involved in the design and delivery of mechanical services across a broad range of projects throughout New Zealand. You’ll develop mechanical designs using Revit and other modern design tools, manage your own project priorities and work directly with clients. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated building designs, while also getting out on site for construction monitoring and project support.

There’s plenty of variety and technical challenge, along with the opportunity to strengthen your client-facing experience and continue developing your technical and professional capability.

We’re keen to hear from engineers with:

  • A Washington Accord Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent)
  • 5+ years’ post-graduate experience within a building services consultancy
  • Strong mechanical building services design experience
  • Revit 3D design and drafting capability
  • Experience with thermal modelling software, preferably IESVE
  • Confidence managing multiple projects, priorities and client relationships
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively
  • A positive, proactive and client-focused approach
  • A willingness to become Chartered, if not already

Experience with Green Star and/or NABERSNZ, healthcare or hospital mechanical design, or building services hydraulics would be advantageous but isn’t essential.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a social, supportive and collaborative team
  • Work alongside a range of disciplines on integrated building designs
  • Strengthen your client relationships and broaden your project experience
  • Continue your professional development, whether that’s towards Chartership or the next stage of your career
  • Enjoy a culture that encourages innovation, independence and knowledge-sharing
  • Make your mark on projects that positively impact the built environment across New Zealand

What Drives Us

People are at the heart of everything we do. By encouraging open dialogue, shared ownership and collaboration, and a safe place to speak up, we strive to create lasting relationships with our work colleagues, clients and the wider communities we work in.

Ready to Apply?

If you’re looking for great project variety, more responsibility and the opportunity to keep developing your career, we’d love to hear from you. Please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your experience and suitability for the role. Only NZ-based applicants will be considered.
