Operations Lead

Based in Michigan, Zeeland Lumber & Supply operates truss and wall panel component manufacturing plants along with full-service building material yards that distribute lumber and an expansive range of specialty products, such as windows, doors, roofing, cabinets, decking, and interior and exterior trim.

A Brief Overview

The Operations Lead assists management by directing the daily work activities of associates in an assigned area as they receive, stock, pull, load and deliver merchandise.

What you will do

• Oversee daily yard and warehouse operations, including the receipt, unloading, storage, and organization of merchandise; verify incoming merchandise against orders and maintain accurate inventory counts.
• Direct and coordinate the work of assigned associates, including Yard/Warehouse Workers, Forklift Operators, and Truck Drivers; train associates, assign work, address issues, and ensure efficient completion of daily activities.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and safe yard and warehouse environment, including merchandise layout and storage, and ensure compliance with operational safety and security policies and procedures.
• Support inventory management activities, including evaluating returned merchandise for appropriate disposition, monitoring cut lumber and stock levels, and initiating replenishment requests as needed.
• Coordinate customer orders and deliveries, which may include scheduling and dispatching deliveries to job sites and providing service to retail, contractor, and professional builder customers.
• Complete required operational inspections, documentation, and forms, and ensure equipment and facility maintenance needs are addressed.
• Perform Forklift Operator and Truck Driver duties as needed, in accordance with applicable qualifications and requirements.
• Direct the work of approximately 1–5 associates in a small yard, 5–15 associates in a medium yard, or 15+ associates in a large yard.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience Qualifications

• 1-3 years of related experience and/or training required.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Good interpersonal, communication and Customer Service skills.
• Knowledge of building materials products and lumber required.
