About the role

We are strengthening our Energy Trading Desk within the Financial Risk Management Department. The desk manages the Group’s global exposure across energy markets, including gas, oil and derivatives, power and carbon, supporting an annual energy spend of more than US$10bn.

We are looking for a senior, market-driven Energy Trader with strong conviction, sound judgement and the ability to turn market insight into measurable value. The right candidate will be comfortable taking well-assessed risk, managing dynamic portfolios and identifying opportunities in fast-moving energy markets, while operating within a robust governance and risk management framework.

In a volatile and increasingly strategic energy market environment, the Senior Energy Trader will:

  • Actively manage energy portfolios across Brent, carbon, power and gas, optimizing risk, liquidity and value creation, both is short term position and longer-dated.
  • Develop and recommend hedging and portfolio strategies for internal stakeholders and senior management.
  • Identify market opportunities, build clear trading views and translate them into disciplined execution within approved limits.
  • Contribute directly to desk performance through rigorous market analysis, timing, portfolio optimisation and risk-adjusted decision-making.
  • Execute physical and financial energy transactions using a broad range of instruments, including futures, swaps and options.
  • Ensure daily desk continuity, responding quickly to market developments and internal stakeholder needs.
  • Produce concise market intelligence, risk analysis and recommendations to support Group decision-making.
  • Operate in full alignment with ArcelorMittal’s Financial Risk Management Framework, internal controls and compliance standards.
  • Represent the Group professionally with market counterparties and contribute to a best-in-class trading culture.

Profile we are looking for:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in finance, economics, engineering, energy, mathematics or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 6–8 years of experience in physical and/or financial energy markets, ideally in a trading, portfolio management or risk management role.
  • Strong understanding of oil, power, carbon and derivative instruments; gas market knowledge is a strong plus.
  • Proven ability to read markets, form independent views and act with conviction under pressure.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative mindset, with a clear focus on performance, risk-adjusted returns and portfolio optimisation.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, intellectual curiosity and appetite for taking ownership in a high-performance trading environment.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders, external counterparties and team members across levels and cultures.
  • Clear, concise communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to explain market views to senior stakeholders.
  • Fluent English; French is a strong plus.
