This individual will serve as the technical lead for all I&C and LSS-related scopes, overseeing field execution, trade partner coordination, quality review, and documentation alignment.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Work Group Lead is a discipline-specific subject matter expert embedded within the execution team. In this role, the I&C + LSS Work Group Lead will be responsible for providing field-level leadership and technical guidance for all instrumentation, low-voltage control systems, fire alarm, smoke control, and other life safety infrastructure installations. This position serves as the primary interface between the CM team, the General Contractor, trade partners, and the client’s technical leads for this scope of work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and technical authority for all Instrumentation and Controls systems, including low-voltage power, signal wiring, PLCs, BMS, DDC, and equipment integration.
  • Lead and coordinate the planning and execution of Life Safety Systems including fire alarm, smoke control, emergency notification, and related low-voltage safety infrastructure.
  • Provide field oversight and verification of in-progress installations to ensure conformance with contract documents, redlines, and project specifications.
  • Review and provide input on installation methods, system integration challenges, and coordination with mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Participate in submittal reviews and RFI responses, particularly related to system compatibility, control schemes, device mounting, and interface points.
  • Work in partnership with QA/QC teams to support inspection planning, test witnessing, and closeout validation for I&C and LSS systems.
  • Interface regularly with trade partners to ensure scope clarity, adherence to quality expectations, and timely execution of work.
  • Support the development of redlines and turnover documentation by verifying as-builts and system integration records.
  • Engage in system walkdowns and commissioning readiness reviews, with an emphasis on verifying controls functionality and life safety compliance.
  • Coordinate with client and GC commissioning teams during startup and functional testing of both I&C and LSS systems.
  • Escalate risks, delays, or quality issues to the Construction Manager and collaborate on resolution strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction or engineering roles related to instrumentation, controls, and life safety systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of PLC, DDC, and low-voltage control systems as they relate to high-tech or industrial facility environments.
  • Familiarity with fire alarm and life safety system requirements, testing procedures, and coordination across trades.
  • Ability to interpret control schematics, point-to-point diagrams, riser diagrams, device layouts, and P&IDs.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple trade partners and field teams in active construction environments.
  • Skilled in resolving field constructability issues and collaborating with design professionals on real-time solutions.
  • Experience supporting system commissioning, loop checks, and controls device validation preferred.
  • Proficient in reviewing and managing redlines, submittals, and turnover documentation.
  • Comfortable navigating platforms such as Bluebeam, BIM 360/ACC, and Excel-based tracking tools.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
