Job Details:
This is a full-time, hybrid position based at Temple University’s Health Sciences Campus. Following successful completion of the probationary period, a flexible work arrangement may be considered based on satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and institutional approval. Any approved flexible work arrangement would require occasional on-site attendance and may be modified or discontinued based on departmental or institutional requirements.

Position Summary:
The Software Engineer 1 – Full Stack develops, enhances, integrates, and supports applications, data solutions, and technical services used by students, faculty, and staff across the Lewis Katz School of Medicine. The position independently owns assigned work from requirements gathering and solution design through development, testing, deployment, documentation, maintenance, and production support. The Software Engineer works closely with the Director of Information Technology, colleagues, and school stakeholders to translate business and academic needs into secure, reliable, accessible, and sustainable technical solutions.

The role supports a mixed technology environment that includes legacy and modern web applications, SQL Server databases, vendor platforms, APIs, data integrations, ETL processes, reporting, automation, and application modernization. Primary assignments may emphasize application development, data integration and reporting, or another area based on organizational priorities and the employee's experience; however, both Software Engineers share responsibility for the broader applications and data portfolio and are expected to cross-train to support service continuity.

Technologies may include Java, JSP, C#, ASP.NET, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, modern frontend frameworks, Python, SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, RESTful APIs, PowerShell, Power Platform, Git, and related modern development and data tools.

Essential Functions

· Independently analyze requirements, design technical solutions, and manage assigned development and integration projects through implementation and ongoing support

· Develop, enhance, maintain, troubleshoot, and modernize web applications and related technical solutions

· Maintain and support legacy Java/JSP and C#/ASP.NET applications while contributing to plans and projects that transition systems to modern, supportable technologies.

· Design and develop responsive, accessible user interfaces using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and appropriate frontend frameworks

· Develop and maintain SQL Server queries, views, stored procedures, database objects, and application data access components

· Develop and support data integrations, ETL workflows, APIs, automated file transfers, and data pipelines connecting institutional and vendor systems

· Create and maintain reporting and analytics solutions, including SSRS reports and other approved reporting tools

· Build automation solutions using Python, PowerShell, Power Platform, or other appropriate technologies

· Troubleshoot production application, data integration, reporting, and data-quality issues; perform root-cause analysis and implement sustainable resolutions

· Integrate vendor-provided applications with school systems and develop additional functionality where appropriate

· Apply secure development, data privacy, accessibility, testing, source control, change management, and deployment practices

· Participate in code reviews and maintain source code and technical artifacts in Git or other approved version-control platforms

· Document requirements, designs, code, configurations, data workflows, integrations, deployment procedures, and operational support processes

· Build effective relationships with stakeholders; gather and clarify requirements, explain technical options, and provide recommendations

· Manage multiple assignments and priorities, communicate status and risks, and escalate issues requiring leadership or broader institutional coordination

· Cross-train with other team members and maintain sufficient documentation and shared knowledge to reduce single points of failure and support service continuity

· Participate in Agile/Scrum or other established planning and development processes

· Provide support for critical systems and perform occasional after-hours work for deployments, maintenance, or urgent production issues when necessary

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, data science, or a related field and at least 2 years of related professional experience developing and supporting applications, integrations, databases, reporting, or automation solutions. Demonstrated ability to independently complete assigned technical work and support production systems is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:
Core Technical Skills:

· Professional experience developing, integrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting software or data solutions

· Working knowledge of at least one modern or enterprise programming language, such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript, with the ability to learn and support additional technologies

· Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts, including querying, data validation, and database objects

· Understanding of web application architecture, APIs, systems integration, testing, deployment, and production support

· Experience using version control, preferably Git

· Ability to analyze business and academic processes and translate requirements into practical technical solutions

· Ability to independently organize and complete assigned work while seeking direction or escalation when priorities, policy, architecture, or risk require leadership decisions
