The Opportunity

As a Travel Broadcast Engineer, you will play an important role in keeping Moody’s broadcast operations reliable, connected, and performing at their best. Under the direction of the Engineering Director, you will support radio frequency (RF) communication systems through field installation, testing, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and system optimization.

Based in the Anderson, Indiana area, this position supports transmitter sites throughout Indiana and travels to other Moody locations nationwide as needed. You will work both independently in the field and collaboratively with Moody’s broader engineering team to maintain the systems that help deliver biblical programming to listeners.

Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a servant-minded approach to supporting others. You should be comfortable managing multiple priorities, responding to changing technical needs, and completing work accurately with limited supervision.

What You'll Do
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain radio communication and broadcast equipment, including transmitters, receivers, antennas, microwave links, STL codecs, remote-control systems, and associated network hardware.
  • Perform system testing and commissioning to ensure newly installed or modified equipment meets design specifications and operational requirements.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on RF systems, broadcast equipment, and related infrastructure to promote reliability and long-term performance.
  • Diagnose system failures and perform corrective maintenance, including repairing or replacing malfunctioning components, sometimes within time-sensitive situations.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve RF performance issues, including interference, signal degradation, and coverage concerns.
  • Use specialized RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, power meters, and TDRs, to evaluate system performance, troubleshoot issues, and verify repairs.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot IP-based audio and network-related broadcast systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of installations, system configurations, maintenance activities, repairs, and testing results.
  • Maintain transmitter, tower-lighting, and Emergency Alert System (EAS) logs in accordance with applicable FAA and FCC requirements.
  • Work independently and effectively at remote transmitter and field locations with limited supervision.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Director, engineering team members, and other key stakeholders on projects involving transmitter sites, studios, and related broadcast infrastructure.
  • Travel regularly throughout the assigned region and provide backup engineering support for other Moody locations nationwide as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting radio frequency (RF) communication or broadcast systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working in field-based technical environments.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving RF system issues.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting IP audio systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout Indiana and periodically to other Moody locations nationwide.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or five years of equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working in radio, media, broadcasting, or a related technical environment.
  • Experience working within a nonprofit or ministry organization.
  • Hands-on experience with RF test equipment, such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, and VSWR meters.
  • Experience with network configuration, including IP addressing and subnetting, as it relates to modern broadcast and radio systems.
  • Experience with satellite uplink and downlink systems.
Work Environment
  • This is a hybrid position based in the Anderson, Indiana area and requires significant field-based work and regular travel.
  • The engineer currently supports Moody transmitter sites throughout Indiana, including Kokomo, Anderson, Lafayette, Covington, and multiple locations in the Martinsville area.
  • Occasional travel outside the assigned region is also required to support other Moody locations and collaborate with the broader engineering team.
  • Work is performed in a variety of environments, including transmitter facilities, equipment rooms, studios, and other field locations.
  • The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods while performing installations, inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.
