About the role
Job Description
Are you someone who loves digging into how systems work and finding ways to make them work better? Since 1901, Nordstrom has defined exceptional service in fashion. Today, our Supply Chain is a competitive advantage, and technology sits at the center of it. The First Mile Transportation team relies on a Transportation Management System (TMS) to move freight quickly and reliably from vendors to Nordstrom sites across the country; and this role keeps that system running at its best.
As the Transportation System Analyst, you will be the day-to-day first point of contact and steward of the Transportation Management System (TMS), maintaining configurations, supporting users, troubleshooting issues, and helping onboard new vendors and carriers. You will work within defined procedures and will make tactical decisions, building deep system knowledge and supply chain expertise that forms the foundation for a long-term career in transportation operations or technology.
This role focuses on three core areas:
- Keeping the TMS running smoothly through proactive maintenance, master data accuracy, and first-line troubleshooting support
- Supporting vendors, carriers, and internal users through onboarding, training, and ongoing system assistance
- Partnering with the broader transportation team to support shipment execution and operational continuity
A Day in the Life
TMS Operations & System Support
- Serve as the day-to-day subject matter expert for the Transportation Management System (TMS), developing deep knowledge of system configurations, business rules, and operational workflows.
- Configure and maintain master data and business rules within the TMS, including carrier profiles, lane configurations, and routing rules, in partnership with Operations and Strategic Sourcing.
- Serve as the first point of escalation for TMS system issues; triage, troubleshoot, and resolve or escalate failures that affect shipment booking, carrier tendering, or operational workflows.
- Plan and execute shipment bookings within the TMS, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in support of transportation operations.
- Partner with members of the Transportation team to identify and implement system improvements that drive operational efficiency and cost savings.
Vendor & User Onboarding and Training
- Support onboarding vendors into the TMS by setting up accounts, configuring access, and guiding suppliers through system requirements and expectations.
- Create and maintain clear, accurate TMS user training documentation; keep materials current as system configurations and processes evolve.
- Conduct orientation sessions for new TMS users, ensuring they understand how to use the system effectively and who to contact for support.
- Build working relationships with suppliers and carriers to maintain smooth system integration and timely resolution of connectivity or data issues.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with stakeholders across the supplier community, carrier network, distribution centers, stores, and merchandising teams to maintain the systematic flow of goods.
- Communicate clearly and proactively with internal partners about system issues, onboarding status, and operational impacts — escalating to senior team members and leaders when needed.
- Contribute to team documentation, process guides, and knowledge-sharing efforts to support a consistent and scalable TMS operating model.
You Own This If You…
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Information Systems, or a related field or have equivalent work experience in a supply chain or logistics environment.
- Bring a minimum of 2 years of experience in supply chain transportation, with exposure to both inbound and outbound transportation operations.
- Have hands-on experience working with a Transportation Management System (TMS); comfort navigating system configurations, user management, or data entry is a plus.
- Approach problems analytically and independently — you’re comfortable with troubleshooting system issues, identifying root causes, and following documented escalation paths when needed.
- Communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats; you can explain system processes or requirements to vendors and non-technical stakeholders in plain language.
- Are detail-oriented and reliable. You take ownership of data accuracy and follow through on commitments, knowing that master data errors have downstream operational impact.
- Work well in a cross-functional environment, building working relationships with carriers, vendors, DC teams, and technology partners.
This is a hybrid role offered in Seattle, WA. Candidates must be available to work in office at the Nordstrom corporate headquarters for a minimum of 4 days/week to be considered for this position.
