Music brings people together. Help shape what comes next.

Rocky Mountain Public Media (RMPM) seeks a Vice President, Music to lead the strategy, growth and impact of three distinctive music brands: KUVO JAZZ, THE DROP and The Colorado Sound.

This is an opportunity to connect music discovery, cultural expression and community relationships with a sustainable future for public media. You will champion each brand's identity, develop strong leaders and expand how audiences experience and support music across broadcast, digital platforms and live events.

Our Friendship Business Model centers on building lasting relationships with the people and communities we serve. In this role, you will help turn a listener's first connection into deeper participation, belonging and sustained support.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Experience Officer, you will serve as one of three portfolio vice presidents and a member of RMPM's Strategy Team. You will own the music portfolio's direction, investment priorities, audience growth and performance while empowering brand leaders to manage daily programming and execution.

Working with colleagues across programming, journalism, revenue, membership, marketing, experiences and product, you will:

  • Set a clear direction. Build a shared strategy for the music portfolio while protecting each brand's distinct sound, cultural relevance and community trust.

  • Grow audiences and deepen relationships. Use research, analytics and community listening to strengthen discovery, loyalty and participation across broadcast, streaming, social, video, podcasts, newsletters and live experiences.

  • Champion creative work. Support local artists, distinctive Colorado storytelling and thoughtful experimentation, including senior guidance for THE DROP's Urban Alternative format.

  • Build meaningful partnerships. Develop relationships with artists, cultural organizations, funders and industry partners. Guide major initiatives, including the Aspen Jazz Radio Initiative, and collaborations that extend the brands' reach.

  • Connect mission and financial sustainability. Partner on membership, underwriting, sponsorship, grants and events while protecting programming integrity and public trust.

  • Develop strong leaders and teams. Coach the music leadership team, clarify responsibilities, set meaningful goals and build an inclusive culture with clear accountability.

  • Steward resources responsibly. Manage budgets and investment decisions, evaluate results and oversee appropriate attention to music rights, licensing, public media standards and operational risks.

What you bring

You combine musical and cultural fluency with sound business judgment. You know how to lead through other leaders, translate ideas into results and build trust across teams and communities.

Your qualifications include:

  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in music, broadcast, public media, digital content, audience development or a related field, including at least five years leading managers or multiple teams.

  • Demonstrated success developing strategy and delivering measurable results across multiple brands, platforms or audience segments.

  • Strong knowledge of music formats and culturally specific audiences, with experience relevant to jazz, hip-hop, R&B, Latin music and contemporary or alternative music discovery.

  • Experience using audience research, digital analytics and community input to guide decisions.

  • A record of developing partnerships and initiatives that support revenue, membership or community participation.

  • Experience managing budgets, allocating resources and developing talent.

  • Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in public or nonprofit media, knowledge of Colorado's music and cultural communities, and success developing digital or live-event offerings are especially valuable.
